We are excited to welcome Engineering Intern Gavin Huff to the Paulding Putnam team! He will be working on a mix of mapping, engineering, and GIS-related tasks.
Here’s a Q&A to help everyone get to know the newest member of the Paulding Putnam family! 
Tell us a bit about your life, family, and where you’re from.
“I grew up in Continental and graduated from Continental High School in 2022. I’m currently going into my final year at the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Electrical Engineering. My parents are Nate and Tegan Huff. I have one younger brother, Gradyn, who also attends the University of Cincinnati and is majoring in Mechanical Engineering. At home, we have two Goldendoodles.”
Why did you want to work at Paulding Putnam? 
“I want to build a career in power systems and energy technology. Paulding Putnam is a utility company that gives me the opportunity to work directly with the electrical grid. It has a strong reputation in the area, and I like the small-town, community-focused culture.”
Can you tell us about your former work history and background?
“In high school, I worked for various farmers as well as H&K Chevrolet in Continental in the mechanic and body shop. During college, I completed several internships. I started at BK Tool & Design in Kalida, Ohio, doing electrical inventory management. Then I worked with Burns & McDonnell in downtown Columbus on hyperscale data center electrical design. Last summer, I worked at Tesla as an Electrical Project Management Intern in Corpus Christi, Texas. Most recently, I worked as an Instrumentation & Controls Engineering Intern at Idaho National Laboratory in Idaho Falls, working on test nuclear reactors.” 
What sorts of tasks will you be doing here at the co-op?
“I’ll be working on a mix of mapping and GIS- related tasks as well as engineering tasks with Rob and Hunter.”
What are you looking forward to?
“I’m looking forward to gaining hands-on experience in transmission and distribution systems, substations, SCADA, and learning how utilities keep power reliable and safe for customers.”
What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of work?
“Outside of work and school, I enjoy hunting and fishing, and anything else outdoors. I also enjoy watching sports and staying active whenever I can.”
A fun fact about you?
“I have been bass fishing in Mexico.”
