At Paulding Putnam, one of our guiding principles is Concern for Community, and that commitment starts with the next generation. Our Bright Futures youth programs offer a wide range of educational, leadership, and community opportunities for students of all ages — helping young people learn about energy, leadership, careers, and civic engagement while forming lifelong friendships and memories.
Youth Tour
Every summer, Paulding Putnam sponsors several high school sophomores and juniors to participate in the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour — a week-long, all-expense-paid leadership experience in Washington, D.C.. This unforgettable trip brings students together with more than 1,600 cooperative teens from across the country to:
- Visit historic sites and national monuments
- Learn about American government and history
- Meet with elected officials on Capitol Hill
- Expand leadership skills and cooperative knowledge
Applications opened in Dec. and close Feb. 6. This is a life-changing experience for those who want to explore leadership and civic engagement on a national level.
Scholarship Opportunities
Paulding Putnam proudly offers a variety of scholarship options designed to support students pursuing higher education or vocational training. Awards are available in several categories:
- Traditional Children of Members Scholarship — Academic awards for high school seniors with strong records
- General Scholarship Drawing — Open to students of any age or their children currently in college or entering post-secondary programs
- Community Champions Award — Recognizes local students who make a positive impact in their communities.
Applications opened in Dec. and close Feb. 6. Winners are celebrated during the cooperative’s annual meeting broadcast.
Camp Kilowatt
Middle school students heading into seventh grade are invited to apply for Camp Kilowatt — a fun and educational
summer camp held in Indiana. This three-day program blends teamwork, adventure, and learning, including:
- Hands-on activities including bucket truck rides and live line safety demonstrations
- Horseback riding, zip-lining, rock climbing, swimming, canoeing, and more
Camp Kilowatt sparks curiosity and builds confidence while connecting students with peers who share interests in science and exploration. Applications open on Jan. 24 - May 1.
Energy Smart & Electrical Safety Programs
We also bring learning to classrooms through the Energy Smart and Electrical Safety Program. These presentations are tailored to student age groups and focus on:
- Where energy comes from
- How to use energy efficiently
- Ways to stay safe around electricity
Interactive demonstrations help students understand energy concepts and safety in fun, age-appropriate ways.
E3 Smart STEM Program
In partnership with Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives, Paulding Putnam supports the E3 Smart Program, offering free STEM curriculum for grades 3–12. Students explore:
- Energy fundamentals
- Engineering concepts
- Real-world applications aligned with state standards
This program is available to teachers and schools at no cost.
