What started as a summer experiment with bees has quickly grown into a thriving small business for Paulding Putnam Electric member Halie Harting and her family. 

Halie, who helps manage her family’s seventh-generation farm, launched Harting Homesteaders in 2023 with her sister-in-law.

District 8 will have a vacant seat in 2021’s election

Fortman, representing Board District 8, is not running for re-election in 2021. As such, District 8 (Ohio townships of Perry, Jackson, Jennings, Monterey, and Marion) will have a vacant seat in 2021’s board election (learn how to run for election here).

In 1935, the number of farms in the United States peaked at 7 million, according to the USDA. Today, there are only 2 million farms left in operation. Ohio claims about 77,000 of those, ranging from small hobby farms to large, family-run operations.
